What is Engine 2? It is a plan of action for following - and sticking to - a heart healthy, mind-healthy, taste-bud-tempting plant strong lifestyle! Sign up to take the challenge by February 2nd at the Customer Service Desk. Pre-registration is free & all registrants have access to our weekly Engine 2 Meet Up Classes:

·         February 3rd 6:30-7:15PM or February 8th 1:00-1:45PM- Plant-Based Dairy Alternatives- Class includes a tasting of all plant based milk. From hemp to soy, discover the flavors and benefits of milk’s non-dairy counterparts.

·         February 10th 6:30-7:15PM or  February 15th 1:00-1:45PM- Healthy Fats-  Class includes demonstration of cooking without oil, saving you on fat and calories without sacrificing flavor.

·         February 17th 6:30-7:15PM or February 22nd 1:00-1:45PM- Plant-Based Proteins- Class includes delightfully satisfying, stick to your ribs, meals that leave you full with high protein alternatives like tofu, seitan, and tempeh.

·         All Free Class Meet Ups include Sampling, Recipes, and Cooking Technique Demonstrations. Sign up for each individual meet up at the Customer Service Desk.

Peak Pick: Pear-fection

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. Is there anything better than a juicy, perfectly ripe pear? Pears, previously only available in one or two varieties, are catching up with apples as heirlooms are brought back to the market and new types are being discovered. Though pears are undeniably delicious for out of hand eating, they can also perform many tricks in the kitchen, becoming syrup, crackers, salsa, relish and a quick pickle with ease, as well as adding an interesting spark to many different dishes. We’ll taste each pear to get a sense of its flavor and texture and integrate them into an array of wonderful winter dishes that highlight the pear’s subtle flavor and juicy texture. We’ll enjoy them roasted, grilled, poached, sauteed and pureed while they’re at the peak of their season and waiting for you to enjoy them. This class has hands on opportunities as desired and has vegetarian/gluten free options upon request. Pre-registration is required. On the menu:

  • Pear and Saffron Sparkler
  • Roasted Pear “Crostini” with Beet and Pear Salsa
  • Pear and Parsnip Bisque with Pickled Pear Relish
  • Pear Stuffed Endive with Prosciutto
  • Pear and Blue Cheese Stuffed Chicken with Rosemary Pan Jus
  • Sesame and Ginger Poached Pears

Cooking for the Busy Professional

This class will be taught by Chef Jeremy. Many of us want to eat out less and cook more at home but we are rather busy and it seems like there’s no time to cook! After a long day at work the last thing any of us want to do is get back to work in the kitchen and take-out or delivery is soon to follow. Fear not, Chef Jeremy will show you some quick and easy ways to cook healthy and delicious meals at home without a lot of effort or commitment. Gourmet, inexpensive and fast, these meals would fit right in at any four star restaurant but we won’t hold it against you if you eat them on the couch. Pre-registration is required. On the menu:

  • New York Strip Steaks with Red Wine Demi Glace
  • Blanched Asparagus Tips with Butter, Garlic and Lemon
  • Roasted Cauliflower with Thyme and Olive Oil
  • BLT Salad with Black Forest Bacon, Heirloom Tomatoes and Tangy Blue Cheese Dressing
  • Macerated Strawberry Napoleon with Pearl Sugar and Whipped Cream
