Biscuits and Gravy, oh yum, and you can hear your arteries slamming shut with every bite! So, once in a while it’s O.K. These sinful delights are so yummy, so comforting, so delectable; don’t mess them up by trying to make them healthy. Enjoy them in all their full glory! Just don’t have them very often.

Now, if you prefer the thick pasty, pale past that is traditionally served with Biscuits ‘n’ Gravy be my guest, however, I much prefer a thinner version that may be poured or spooned and then sopped up with your tender, flaky biscuit.

A moist, sweet, cake-like quick bread, banana bread is made with fully ripe, mashed bananas.   There are some recipes where banana bread is made as a yeast bread when it is then usually sliced, toasted and spread with butter.

It was with the popularization of baking soda and baking powder in the 1930’s that banana bread first became a standard feature of American cookbooks and appeared in Pillsbury’s 1933 Balanced Recipes cookbook. Banana bread later gained further acceptance with the release of the original Chiquita Banana’s Recipe Book in 1950.

The United States saw the arrival of bananas in the 1870’s and it took a while for them before they appeared as an ingredient in desserts.  Bananas were expensive and housewives did not want to throw the overripe ones away therefore during the great depression, the actual Banana Bread recipe began being published.

There are many different variations of the traditional banana bread, a few of which include:
Banana raisin bread – Banana nut bread – Chocolate chip banana bread.

The way they crunch, the way they dip - February 24 is National Tortilla Chip Day!

If you've ever enjoyed the snacktastic crunch of tortilla chips with a hefty scoop of salsa, queso dip or buried beneath a mountain of nacho fixin's, then you might be inclined to write a song about them as well.

Tortilla chips are the result of corn tortillas cut into wedges and then fried to perfection. Light, crunchy and just salty enough, they consist of simple ingredients: corn, vegetable oil, salt and water.

These favorite chips are the result of entrepreneurial mind Rebecca Webb Carranza. During the 1940s, she and her husband, who ran a Mexican delicatessen and tortilla factory in Los Angeles, decided to take misshapen tortillas and turn them into a profitable treat. Carranza took the less-than-perfect tortilla, cut them into triangles and fried them up, selling for a dime a bag.

Carranza received a Golden Tortilla award for her contribution to the Mexican food industry in 1994. Now, tortilla chips are the quintessential appetizer at Mexican restaurants all over the country. Honor Carranza and her incredible invention with homemade tortilla chips alongside roasted apple and tomatillo salsa, guacamole or even hot artichoke dip. You'll be singing "I Like Tortilla Chips" to anyone that will listen.
