Aside from non‐melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. It is also one of the leading causes of cancer deaths among women of all races. Aside from nonmelanoma skin cancer prostate cancer is the most frequent cancer in men and one of the leading causes of death. Both of these conditions are similar in that they are hormone dependent cancers and occur very infrequently in one the most studied and long living populations in the world – the Okinawa Centenarians. Unprocessed foods diets, rich in antioxidants and cruciferous vegetables, as well as whole soy foods may play a significant protective role. Kirk will talk about the soy controversy and try and put it in perspective and cook a simple, hormone protective tempeh and cruciferous vegetable stir fry; a simple miso garlic soup with shredded Brussels sprouts; an edamame, cruciferous veggie bean dip; and tofu/berry flax “milk” shake. You will also receive a copy of Kirk’s book “Staying Healthy in the Fast Lane” whose theme is the prevention and reversal of chronic disease, by the use of a low allergy, unprocessed plant‐based diets. You will also receive a copy of Kirk’s book “Staying Healthy in the Fast Lane” whose theme is the prevention and reversal of age‐related (chronic) diseases, such as diabetes, by the use of a low allergy, anti‐inflammatory, unprocessed plant‐based diets.

So many flavorful Asian foods and so little time! Asian Cuisine Part II

Everyone loves to eat with their hands and take food "to go"--which explains the popularity of finger foods like sandwiches. But the typical sandwich is high in carbs and can leave you feeling weighed down. Asian wraps (i.e. spring rolls and nori rolls) are the solution to energizing food on the go. Pair these wraps with other delicious entrées, sides, and dessert for an over-the-top pan-Asian feast!

For more information contact: Pamela Spencer, Nutritionist 916-996-6098 www.sacnutritionist.com

On the menu:

Creamy Miso Soup

Chow Mein

Sunflower Pate with Nori Wrap

Sesame Seed Dipping Sauce

Vanilla Coconut Ice Cream With Toppings

Lecture and knowledge class – All Ages

Learn how to use a juicer, get recipes and the health benefits gained from juicing. You've probably heard juicing is good for you, right? But why? What about the fiber?  Learn  the pros/cons of different juicer models, how to use a juicer and clean a juicer, and how to maximize the nutritional value from juicing veggies and reverse many health conditions naturally. Fresh juice provides us with minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, proteins and much more. All of these factors are vital to maintaining good health. Although eating fruits and vegetables in their natural state does provide us with a substantial amount of vitamins and minerals, we can maximize the benefits from them when they are juiced. When we juice veggies, their goodness is released from the fiber and we are able to drink their highly concentrated nutrients which are then able to enter our bloodstream very quickly. Everything you've always wanted to know about juicing and more! Samples are provided.
