Community 5% Day: Legacy of Giving
Wednesday, November 13th
This Wednesday, November 13th support Legacy of Giving, an Austin community non-profit by shopping at Whole Foods Market stores in the area. Whole Foods Market will donate 5% of net profits for the entire day to Legacy of Giving.
Mission: “Empowering children through philanthropy education and youth philanthropy programs, to become more engaged in improving their communities and world.”
About the Program: A Legacy of Giving has developed a curriculum taught in K through 12th grade, taught through Academic Assemblies, service events, and reflection lessons developed by Legacy educators.
Who Participates: 26 Austin-area schools, 19 of which are Title I Schools. Throughout Central Texas, from kindergarten to high school, public to private schools, children participating in the Legacy program are learning why and how to give.
Fun Fact: Children who perform acts of kindness experience increased wellbeing and improved social relationships and acceptance among peers. This, in turn, leads to better classroom behavior and higher academic achievement, according to developmental psychologist Marilyn Price Mitchel.
Fun Fact: Since 2006, Legacy of Giving students have collected 13,919 coats and 208,032 pounds of food for Central Texans. Economic status, faith, or age don’t matter: students become philanthropists when their time and talents serve their community.
