Erin’s cooking background began at the age of 5 in her mom and dad’s kitchen, and comfort food dishes were their specialty. Erin took over the Culinary Demo Specialist position here at Whole Foods Market Milford almost a year ago, and her creative culinary dishes are always crowd pleasers. Erin’s favorite area restaurant (which changes often) is Bella’s in New Haven.

Monday, March 10th, Javier Colon -– Prepared Foods Leadership in Training – Cooking Spanish Roasted Pork and Rice
Javier’s formal culinary education came from the Bullard Haven’s 4 year cooking program in Bridgeport, CT, but he has been cooking with his father since the age of 8. Typical dishes in Javier’s childhood kitchen included anything with rice and usually roasted pork. When Javier eats out in the area, he normally chooses a restaurant with exceptional home fries and orange juice. Can you guess what Javier’s favorite meal of the day is?

Varica’s culinary education began when she was 5 years old in her grandmother’s kitchen and desserts, especially apple pie, were their specialty. Varica’s favorite area restaurant is Maya’s Sushi in New Haven, not only because of a very large one-of-a kind selection, but also because their food is sustainably sourced.

Mona’s cooking background began at the age of 6 in her mom’s kitchen. Cooking Jamaican dishes like curry chicken, ackee and salt fish were very common, but her family also enjoyed cooking Italian and traditional Spanish dishes.  When Mona eat out at local restaurants, she’ll normally order Italian pasta dishes.

Monday, March 31st, Brian Kurtyka – Bakery Team Leader – Cooking Traditional Polish Pierogies
Brian’s culinary career began in his mother’s kitchen and by the age of 8 he knew he wanted to attend Johnson and Wales University.  Brian graduated from Johnson and Wales in 2000 with a degree in International Pastry Arts and began his career in Whole Foods Market’s Bakery department in 2009. When cooking at home, Brian loves to make his fully loaded mashed potatoes complete with caramelized onions.

Brian’s culinary career began in his mother’s kitchen and by the age of 8 he knew he wanted to attend Johnson and Wales University.  Brian graduated from Johnson and Wales in 2000 with a degree in International Pastry Arts and began his career in Whole Foods Market’s Bakery department in 2009. When cooking at home, Brian loves to make his fully loaded mashed potatoes complete with caramelized onions.

Whole Planet Foundation The Whole Planet Foundation helps alleviate poverty by providing microcredit loans in communities where Whole Foods Market sources products. The microcredit loan will empower an impoverished woman entrepreneur to create or expand a home-based business, providing an opportunity to lift herself and her family out of poverty.
