September 30 National Mulled Cider Day
Tuesday, September 30th
12:00 AM
Whole Foods Market San Mateo,
September 30  National Mulled Cider Day
"Here's to thee, old apple tree!" - September 30 is National Mulled Apple Cider Day!

A seasonal, cozy drink that will warm you from your head to your toes, mulled apple cider is the ultimate way to welcome the fall season. We dare you to let the smell of spiced cider tickle your nose and not get in the spirit.

Steeping cinnamon, orange peel, nutmeg, clove and other aromatic and flavorful spices give mulled apple cider its memorable and nostalgia-inducing flavor. This holiday beverage is based on traditional wassail, which evolved from a saying "waes hael" or "Be in good health" during the Middle Ages.

In the middle of January, the village folk would go wassailing, toasting, drinking wassail and singing in the apple orchard in hopes of a good autumn harvest. The song was a charming little ditty, which went something like this:

"Here’s to thee, old apple tree,
That blooms well, bears well.
Hats full, caps full,
Three bushel bags full,
An’ all under one tree.
Hurrah! Hurrah!"

As you sit back and enjoy a steaming hot cup of mulled apple cider, don't forget to wish your friends "waes hael!" and maybe even do a little wassailing, because let's face it - it beats that nutty "Friday" song.
