Meet our One Dime at a Time recipient: Ready Readers
Saturday, January 4th
12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Whole Foods Market Galleria, Free, Reservations not required

Whole Foods Market gives 10 cents per bag to customers who re-use shopping bags for their purchased groceries. Customers have the option to take that off their bill, or donate it to a local nonprofit organization. This program reduces our impact on the environment and now supports local nonprofit groups. Between January 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014 donations made at Whole Foods Market - Galleria in Brentwood benefit Ready Readers. Ready Readers is a St. Louis non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring preschool-age children from low-income communities to become successful readers. Meet Ready Readers in our store today, and find out more about being one of the 550 volunteers who read weekly to 8,000 preschool children attending 162 early childhood centers in St. Louis.  Each child also receives 7 new, quality books a year – a total of 60,000 books a year.

Whole Foods Market celebrates healthy eating for the New Year with a Health Starts Here (HSH) Passport event that showcases good-for-you foods and recipes. Whole Foods Market’s HSH program provides healthy eating education with the goal of empowering customers, team members and stakeholders to make the best health-supportive, delicious food choices to maximize personal health and vitality. HSH focuses on four pillars of healthy eating: real foods that are whole, fresh, natural, organic, local, seasonal and unprocessed; plant based foods; healthy fats from plant sources such as nuts, seeds and avocados; and nutrient dense foods.

Meet our One Dime at a Time Recipient:  Marshall Movement Foundation

The Marshall Movement Foundation has partnered with Girls in the Know to develop The Marshall Mentor Program, a character education mentoring program that helps youth understand the importance of empathy, strength, courage, perseverance, kindness and forgiveness and challenges them to put these traits into action. The program utilizes high school aged female mentors to deliver Marshall the Miracle Dog's cornerstone messages. By supporting their younger peers the mentors are developing as future leaders in their communities. For additional information, go to www.marshallthemiracledog.com. Beginning this month, watch for photos on the floor of team members who have volunteered to participate in “Mullets for Marshall,” a creative and fun fundraiser for the Marshall Movement Foundation! Make an additional donation at the register and receive a ticket to vote for your favorite team member mullet!

Whole Kids Foundation Campaign

Whole Kids Foundation's (WKF) mission is to support schools and inspire families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness. Given the right opportunities, kids will get excited about fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains and other nutritious whole foods. The Foundation’s goals help kids learn to love fresh, nutritious, whole foods, increase access to and consumption of these foods in schools, inspire families to prepare and share these foods at home, encourage community action that supports healthier kids, and create support tools for educators who play a vital role in modeling and teaching healthy choices. WKF also provides schools with salad bars through their partnership with Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools, provide grants for school gardens and related programs, offer cooking and nutrition education for school teachers and staff, and support The Lunch Box online tools, which help cafeterias transition to serving more fresh, whole foods. During the first 2 weeks in September we will be collecting funds at the registers as well as hosting several in-store fundraising events to help this amazing cause. Please join us in improving the health of all children by donating to the Whole Kids Foundation.
