Gluten Free Bakehouse


The Whole Foods Market Gluten-Free Bakehouse is the company's first dedicated gluten-free baking facility. Located in the Raleigh, North Carolina suburb of Morrisville, the new 8,000-square-foot facility was created to meet the needs of the increasing number of customers whose diets require gluten-free foods.

Frequently Asked Questions

The store I go to doesn't have the Gluten-Free Bakehouse products, how can I get them?
As of late fall of 2005, all Whole Foods Market and Harry's Farmers Market stores in the United States will be carrying the Gluten-Free Bakehouse products. The location of the products may differ from store to store. Look for the products in either the bakery department, the freezer aisle, or possibly in a separate display with other gluten-free products. If you have trouble locating the products, or a specific product in the line, the bakery team members should be able to assist you.

I don't have a Whole Foods Market near where I live. Can you mail these products to me?
Unfortunately, we are unable to process mail-orders. Demand for this product has been very high and we are focused on supplying our stores. The Gluten-Free Bakehouse is a high-volume production facility and taking on mail-order would be comparable to starting up a whole new business. At this time, our focus is supplying our stores with the highest quality gluten-free baked goods and continuing to develop this product line.

If you know you are traveling to an area near a Whole Foods Market store, you can call ahead and place a special order for the products you'd like to purchase. Most store locations require at least 48 hours notice for special orders, but this may vary by location in regards to Gluten Free Bakehouse products (ask someone in the bakery department for details). Our products are shipped to the stores frozen, so you may wish to request that they remain frozen for ease of transport and storage. You may wish to ask about case discounts or other in-store promotions also.

I have allergies that prevent me from being able to eat most of the Gluten-Free products. Can you make something without "X"?
Our focus at the Gluten-Free Bakehouse is to create the greatest tasting gluten-free products available. This is a dedicated gluten-free facility, meaning there is no production using any ingredients that contain gluten. Because we use other ingredients that can be potential allergens, we do not focus on baking products that are free of other allergens. For example, the Molasses Ginger Cookies contain no milk ingredients or milk derivatives. However, they are made in a facility that uses milk ingredients in other products, so we do not label them as dairy-free. We use third-party testing for our sanitation and cleanliness procedures and limit cross-contamination through good manufacturing practices, but we test ingredients and final products for the absence of gluten only.

My store doesn't carry the Lemon Poppyseed Pound Cake anymore. How can I get this product?
We originally began production with 27 different items. Because demand was so high in areas where we started selling the products, we were not able to roll-out the products in all our stores on a timely basis. We increased our production staff by almost 400% in the first 10 months, but in order to get products in all of our US stores as quickly as possible, we temporarily decreased the total number of products available. We plan to reintroduce some of the discontinued items or replace them with new products once our production is capable of meeting all our stores' current needs. Our product line will continue to develop, and customer feedback in the stores will play an important part in determining future product selection.
