Apple-Walnut Charoset

Makes about 3 1/2 cups

One of the components of a Passover Seder plate, charoset is a condiment traditionally served with matzoh, but it can also be used in a variety of tasty ways. Pair with roasted meats or veggies or serve as a breakfast treat.

  • 1 1/2 pound (3 or 4) Gala or Fuji apples, diced
  • 1 cup toasted walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup sweet red wine such as Manishewitz, or grape juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

In a large bowl, stir together apples, walnuts, wine, honey, orange juice and cinnamon. Let sit for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow apples to soften. Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
