North Carolina Barbecue Sauce

Makes about 2 cups

North Carolina barbeque sauce is traditionally vinegar-based. Try pouring this tart condiment over pulled pork or chopped beef brisket.
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red chile flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Method

In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, 1/2 cup water, salt, black pepper, chile flakes and sugar. 

Let simmer over low heat for 30 minutes or until fragrant and warm. 

Use immediately or refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
