Sweet and Spicy Toasted Pecans

Makes 4 cups

Toasty with a nice bit of winter spice, the combination of maple syrup and brown sugar makes these a delicious treat.

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups pecan halves

Preheat the oven to 300°F. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

Melt butter, sugar and maple syrup in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in salt, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cayenne. Pour over pecans, tossing well. Arrange pecan mixture in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until lightly toasted, about 30 minutes; stir once during baking. Cool pecans on the prepared baking sheet. Store pecans in an airtight container.
