Sweet and Spicy Toasted Pecans

Makes 4 cups (12 - 1/3 cup servings)

Toasty with a nice bit of winter spice, the combination of maple syrup and brown sugar makes these a delicious treat.

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups pecan halves

Preheat the oven to 300°F.

Melt butter with brown sugar and maple syrup in a medium saucepan. Remove from heat and stir in salt and spices. Pour over pecans, toss them well, and lay out on a cookie sheet that has been covered with parchment paper. Bake for 30 to 45 minutes depending on how toasted you like your pecans. Stir once during baking. Remove from oven and allow pecans to cool on the cookie sheet. Store pecans in an airtight container.
