At Whole Foods Market, we strive to serve and support our local communities. In fact, it’s one of our core values – everyday missions that drive our business practices. Each of our stores regularly partners with non-profit groups to meet the needs of the local community.
Whole Foods Market has specific guidelines for organizations we can support through donations. In addition to being a 501c3, your organization must fall into one of following categories:
The following are the three types of community giving we offer:
1. In-Kind Donation
We are part of the local community and are passionate about supporting the local causes that are important to our shoppers and neighbors. We are actively involved in our communities by:
2. Nickels for Non-Profits
When customers bring in their reusable bags for groceries, they have the option of receiving a five-cent credit (per bag) or donating five cents to a selected charity. Local organizations are selected every quarter (four times per year) as recipients.
A selected organization may be asked to attend special events in partnership with Whole Foods Market to help promote the Nickels for Non-Profits partnership.
3. 5% Community Support Day
Once per quarter, Whole Foods Market contributes 5% of one day’s sales to a non-profit organization. We work together with the participating organization to promote the partnership and generate sales on the day of the event. The participating organization must have the capability to promote the event within their organization and in the community.
On a 5% Day, the selected organization is invited to table in-store throughout the day to education and interact with customers.
If you are interested in applying for one of our Community Giving Programs, please download and fill out or Donation Request Form and email it to SFDonations@wholefoods.com.
Please note, we are not able to donate to groups or individuals seeking pledges. A copy of your 501c3 letter from the IRS, along with state tax forms must be attached with the application. The 501c3 letter is issued by the Treasury and is different from state forms. Public schools should submit a tax-ID on district letterhead.
Your application must be submitted at least eight weeks before the event or donation pick up date.
Organizations may only apply for a donation once per calendar year. Past support of an organization or event does not guarantee future support. We keep all applications on file for two years.
Lastly, due to the high volume of donation inquiries we receive, it is not possible for Whole Foods Market to fulfill every request. We will contact you only if we can make a contribution to your organization.
