Community Giving and Partnerships

At Whole Foods Market, we are active participants in our community. We are extremely proud of our community involvement and the relationships that we continue to make each month! We strive to make a difference.  Here are the 3 types of partnerships we offer:

  • General/Event Related Donations
  • 5% Community Support Days
  • Bag Refund Donation Program

Please see further info on each program, including how to apply below:

  1. General/Event Related Donations

Whole Foods Market receives many donation requests. We’d like to say yes to everyone, but that’s not always possible, as we have a limited budget. Here are the criteria we use to make decisions about donations:
    • We make donations to non-profit organizations only. We prioritize supporting events and organizations that focus on creating positive outcomes in the areas of: food security, food access, food as a community builder, and healthy kids and families.
    • Requests must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the event
    •  Requests by phone or in person will not be accepted. We greatly prefer donations submitted electronically over a hard copy delivered or sent to the store.

  2. 5% Community Support Days

Once a quarter, Whole Foods Market contributes 5% of one day’s sales to a non-profit organization. We work together with the participating group to promote the organization, finding fun and creative ways to generate sales the day of the event. The participating organization must have the capability to promote the event within their organization and out to the community via a newsletter, emails, press releases, social media, etc.
    • On a 5% Community Support Day, the chosen organization will need to maintain a staffed information table throughout the day to allow customers to get to know and interact with the organization.
    • We make donations to non-profit organizations only. We prioritize supporting events and organizations that focus on creativing positive outcomes in the areas of: food security, food access, food as a community builder, and healthy kids and families.

  3. Bag Refund Donation Program

When customers bring in their own bags for groceries they have the option of receiving a ten cent credit (per bag) or the option to donate the ten cents to the participating charities. Two organizations are selected each quarter to participate in the program. The same organization may participate for multiple quarters in the same year.  At the end of the quarter the selected organizations will each receive 50% of the monies that have been donated during the quarter.
