Whole Foods Market believe in supporting the community we serve. Each of our stores has the power to make decisions at a local level about how best to serve our customers and community.
Now in its fourth year, Schools to Market takes thousands of local school children on the journey from seed to supermarket shelf. We're proud to support dozens of schools throughout London, Cheltenham & Glasgow as we help them grow their own produce and facilitate healthy eating education programs. Whole Planet Foundation’s mission is poverty alleviation through microcredit in communities around the world that supply Whole Foods Market stores with products. We currently support 1,310,827 micro entrepreneurs in 70 different countries around the world.
We have four designated days throughout the year where 5% of the day’s net sales go directly to non-profit organisations. This includes Whole Planet Foundation and Whole Kids Foundation. Customers can support the selected organisations by shopping or donating at the tills.
We produce amazing food on a daily basis and unfortunately at times, some becomes surplus. One of the big differences between our stores and other supermarkets is the sheer volume of in-store production we undertake, so our in-house kitchens use much of the food from around the store. However we also ensure that surplus food goes to local food banks and shelters, where it can help feed those most in need.
We pledged to plant one tree in the Heart of England Forest for every Christmas tree sold in our UK stores. Six months later, a group of well-booted team members headed to the forest for a planting party of our 1,000 oak trees. Watch more here.
