  Thanks again to all of you and your generousity for giving to Americare so they can continue to make a difference in Haiti.  We'll keep you posted on their efforts....

   

  AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief aid organization, which delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in crisis around the world. They are sending a shipment of relief supplies that includes antibiotics, pain relievers, bandages and medical supplies for survivors with trauma injures. Additional shipments will follow in the days and weeks ahead.

• Nickels for Non-profit

  What is the Nickels for Non-Profit

  "Nickels for Non-Profit" is giving customers the opportunity to give back to their community. Every time a customer shops with a reusable bag, WFM offers a $.05 rebate that the customer has the option to either keep or donate to one of two chosen local non-profits. Customers who chose the donation option will receive a wooden nickel for each reusable bag and will be directed by the cashier to deposit it into one of the two slots available on the wooden holder in Customer Service.

  Skip the Bag Save the River

  5 cents | Details

  Skip the Bag, Save the River: The District's Law on Disposable Carryout Bags is Changing January 1, 2010.
  

  Beginning January 1, 2010, District businesses that sell food or alcohol must charge you 5 cents for each disposable paper or plastic carryout bag.   The business keeps 1 cent, or 2 cents if it offers a rebate when you bring your own bag.   And the remaining 3 or 4 cents go to the new Anacostia River Protection Fund. DDOE will administer this fund. We will use it to provide reusable bags, educate the public about litter, and clean up the river.
