Kosher for Passover

Seder plateI have been fortunate to participate in a handful of Seder dinners and at each one, I was awed by the reverence paid to the long-standing rituals of the celebration. Notably, however, each family had tailored the celebration to include less traditional but still kosher-for-passover dishes and products to meet the needs and palate of everyone at the table.

At Whole Foods Market®, we’ve got kosher cooking basics from salt (look for 365 Everyday Value® Sea Salt High Quality Mediterranean Sea Salt – Coarse or Fine Crystals) to olive oil (365 Everyday Value® Extra Virgin Olive Oil Cold pressed 100% Italian) and holiday essentials from gefilte fish to grape juice. You’ll also find less traditional but no less important kosher finds too.

Whatever you reach for, rest assured our grocery buyers work closely with our vendor partners to develop delicious kosher products that meet our strict quality standards meaning they’re free of hydrogenated fats and artificial preservatives, colors and flavors.

Here’s a sample of what’s in-store for you:

Seder Staples

  • Organic whole wheat matzo, matzo meal, matzo farfel and cake meal. Thanks to Aviv, a 125-year-old traditional matzo producer in Israel, you have plenty of organic matzo options.
  • Organic grape juice. As an essential part of the Passover Seder, Avvio’s organic grape juice is made just for Whole Foods Market. Nonalcoholic, it’s made with 100% Concord grape juice.

Tradition with a Twist

  • Streit’s Quinoa. Since 1925, when Aron Streit opened his first matzo bakery, Streit’s has been a premiere purveyor of kosher foods. Their new kosher-for-passover quinoa only available at Whole Foods Market stores.
  • Matzo + granola = Matzolah. Made with Streit’s Matzo, Foodman's whole wheat Maple Nut Granola is a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack during the Passover season and beyond.

Jelly RingsSweet Additions

  • Jelly Rings. Harrison's Original Sweet Shoppe’s non-dairy chocolate covered raspberry jelly rings are sure to please during Passover.
  • Fruit Slices. Enjoy another non-dairy delight with Harrison's Original Sweet Shoppe’s raspberry, orange and lemon fruit slices.
  • Macaroons. Delicately sweet and crisp, Glick's macaroons are offered in chocolate, chocolate chip, almond and coconut varieties.

This is just a sampling of the Passover foods available in many of our stores. Kosher options vary by store, so contact your local Whole Foods Market to learn more about their specific selection and how they can help you with your special meal.

What will you be serving during Passover? Let me know in the comments below.

@SHELLEY - The options for each store will vary. I would encourage you to reach out to your local store to see what options they will have. Some of our stores will feature their menus online at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering. If you do not see your local store on the list, you can find their contact info at http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/online-ordering.

Dear Elizabeth Smith and everyone at Raleigh's Whole Foods, thankyou for catering to the Jewish community again this year for Passover. In Fayetteville, I have trouble finding some blintzes, creamed herring, matza meal and enough gefilte fish along with whitefish spread to last the whole holiday. I may have made this request in another section of your Whole Foods site, but would you please email us a list of items that are kosher for Passover at your store? Thankyou so much and have a safe and happy Pesach! And by 'safe' I mean don't overdo on the matza! It binds me!

Someone needs to contact the Harrison Sweet Shoppe people about their jelly rings. The info states 3 pieces contains 42 grams of fat. That does not seem possible. It would help if they correct that mistake.

This page advertises (see above "Traditions with a Twist") "Matzo + granola = Matzolah. Made with Streit’s Matzo, Foodman's whole wheat Maple Nut Granola is a delicious breakfast or afternoon snack during the Passover season and beyond." You cannot eat wheat on Passover, so Foodman's whole wheat Maple Nut Granola should not be advertised as a Kosher for Passover treat. Of course, it's delicious throughtout the rest of the year. And I would love to see Whole Foods bring in some Kosher for Passover Legs of Lamb and Briskets for the Seder Table, especially when there are such scrumptious recipes for lamp and brisket being advertised on Whole Foods' website for the 'other' holiday. Thank you!

I buy all my meats and gluten-free products at Whole Foods. Unfortunately, your Pinecrest, FL store only carried first-cut/flat-cut brisket for a few Jewish holidays during the year. My friends and I would like to be able to buy brisket all year, not just for the holidays. Please advise your buyer that brisket isn't only for Jewish holiday seasons. Also, because I am gluten-free, I'm hoping that the Pinecrest, FL store will be carrying gluten-free matzo this year, as well as gluten-free cakes and cookies that are Kosher for Passover. Thank you, (Mrs.) Ricki L. Zunk Kendall, FL

Diane said you cannot eat wheat on passover but wheat - in the form of matza and all it's derivatives (farfel, meal, flour et. c.) - is the only grain permissible during pesach if my memory serves me correctly. Therefore a granola using pesadic matza as the only grain should be ok.

I urge you to carry Kosher products, at least for Passover....i.e., chickens, chicken livers, etc. Other places that carry Kosher meats are, simply, not that good.

We have a new Whole Foods in Boise, Idaho! I checked ahead of time to inquire about the Kosher for Passover selection they offer, I was thrilled to receive an email from the store. I was not dissappointed with their selection of matza, cookies, and thank you for having potato starch. I came away with most of the basics for our week of meals. Our store even had an end cap display for Passover! Now if we could ask that there be a "kosher section" so I did not have to search each aisle for product, or maybe a flyer with the kosher items listed by section? Thank you for recognizing the need in our community!
