Beef burgers rule this week! It’s week seven of our collaborative 8-Week Recipe Contest with food52, an online community for home cooks. If you have a great beef burger recipe, go to the food52 contest page to submit your recipe for a chance to win a $100 gift card from Whole Foods Market. All recipe submissions must meet Whole Foods Market’s Quality Standards, which means that they must be free of hydrogenated fats, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or sweeteners. To enter, go to the food52 contest page, create a log-in account, and then follow their instructions for entering. (While we love seeing your recipes, entering one in the comments section of this blog post will not get you entered into the contest.) Food52 is accepting beef burger recipes starting today, July 19th and ending on July 23rd, so make sure to get your recipe in quickly. Winners of the eight weekly contests will be eligible to win a grand prize of a $1,000 Whole Foods Market gift card! There’s one more week before the grand prize voting, so get your recipes ready for that star of late summer: heirloom tomatoes! They will start accepting recipes for those on July 26th. Good luck!

Mine is so simple...I use organic beef 85/15 mix. Chop 2-3 chipotle peppers in adobo (to taste, they're hot!) and mix into one lb of ground beef along with about 1/2 cup of Mexican blend cheese, salt & pepper, 1 teaspoon minced garlic, and 1/3 cup minced cilantro (optional). Grill over medium heat until done. I serve on grilled buns along with tomato, lettuce & sliced avocado. This is our family favorite!

An organic 80/20 mix formed into patties. Topped with roasted chile sauce. (Roast Anaheims and Poblano's, peel and chop. Add 3/4's of the chopped chiles to a food processor and puree with Olive oil and grilled green onions. Season to taste and add the other 1/4 of the chopped chiles.) Grill burgers to desired doneness, Top with roasted chile sauce and a slice of provolone cheese. Keep on the grill til cheese melts. Serve on your favorite bun. Condiments are not needed.

Epicurious.com had a Mustard-Dill Burger recipe a few years ago that mixed equal parts sour cream and dijon mustard and fresh dill. Half of the spread is mixed into the ground beef and half is saved for topping. I realized the sourcream gives the burger a wonderful soft texture. When I make my version, I use 1 lb grassfed beef, 3 tbsp organic sour cream, 3 tbsp dijon mustard, 2 tbsp chopped dill, any kind of chili finely chopped to taste because I like things spicier, and chopped capers and garlic to add some salt an zing. Its an easy, yet fancy burger with a fun alternative to ketchup.

I usually use: * 1 pound ground beef * 1 egg * 1/2 cup minced onion * 1 or 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1/4 teaspoon pepper * 4 hamburger buns * 1/4 cup mayonnaise * 4 iceberg lettuce leaves, * 1 firm-ripe tomato, cored and thinly sliced * 4 thin slices red onion Mix ground beef, egg, onion ,garlic, salt, and pepper until well blended. Grill over each side only 2 to 3 seconds, close lid on gas grill. 4 ~5 minutes total. Remove from grill. That's all.

Just made these burgers last night and they were fantastic. I use 85/15 organic ground beef (3-4oz each) and simply dress them with a little olive oil, pepper and white truffle salt (plain kosher salt would be fine) and grill to desired degree of doneness. In the last minute of grilling top the burgers with caramelized onions and an aged cheddar. Place the burgers on lightly toasted rosemary focaccia bread with a garnish of arugula with a drizzle of olive oil. Enjoy! Come to think of it the lemon infused olive oil (which you find in the bulk section) would have been good. Next time! We also mastered cooking sweet potato fries on a cookie sheet on the grill and served them with a spicy Thai basil ketchup. We will do anything not to heat the house up in these hot summer months!

I like making Taco Burgers 1 lb lean ground beef or turkey 1 pkg taco seasoning ( whichever kind fits your palette spicy or not) Tomato Romaine, green or red leaf lettuce 1 red onion 2 cloves garlic (i love garlic, so i use a good amount) Avocado or Guacamole Shredded Mexican blend cheese or grated pepper jack * optional- cilantro, jalapeno, hot sauce Season turkey with taco seasoning in a medium bowl, place in fridge while you get the other ingredients together. Slice tomato, 1/2 onion, and lettuce. Mince garlic, slice avocado if you want it in slices or you could either buy or make guacamole. Dice remaining onion and mix it into turkey meat along with minced garlic. Make patties and grill, right before they are done melt the cheese on top. Dress burgers with tomato, lettuce, avocado or guac, * optional items and raw onion. Serve on a toasted whole wheat bun. They are definitely a crowd pleaser and you could add whatever you like on tacos to this burger, it's my favorite one to make.
