Old Westminster winery is a project by three siblings: Drew Baker (farmer), Lisa Hinton (winemaker) and Ashli Johnson (general manager). Together they make wines on the family farm in central Maryland, from vines that Drew started planting on these rolling hills 10 years ago, as well as from some of their neighbors. They do everything by hand, working sustainably to craft wines of place.
The vines grow at 800ft elevation in loamy soils over greenstone schist, which imparts intense aromatics and distinct minerality to the wines. Lisa vinifies the hand-sorted grapes with native yeasts and lets them do the rest. In addition to crafting honest wines, the siblings make a variety of piquettes, wild ciders, spirits and other avant-garde rarities that challenge traditional beverage categories.
