A Recipe for Mardi Gras Party Success

Let the fun begin — Mardi Gras is around the corner! Also known as Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras is celebrated the day before the beginning of Lent, when many people choose to fast. Many enjoy it as an excuse to party (myself included) and indulge in all sorts of foods, especially those with ties to New Orleans cuisine: Cajun and Creole.

If a trip to the Big Easy isn’t in your future this February, you can still enjoy a taste of the excitement by trying one or two of these recipes. You can capture the essence of les bons temps by turning it into a party with your friends and family and trying them all. So grab some masks and beads, crank the zydeco music and pick from these delicious recipes to build your menu:

If you can’t keep up with the rabble-rousers all day and night (which, with a one year old, I certainly can’t), then a parade of pancakes might be more up your alley. To kick it up a notch, invite some friends over, pour mimosas and identify each glass by wrapping a different color of Mardi Gras beads around it.

And, don’t forget to pick up my favorite Mardi Gras treat of all — a king cake! This buttery cake is a Mardi Gras tradition, and whoever finds the hidden trinket gets to be king or queen for the day.
