3 wide strips orange peel (removed with a vegetable peeler)
1/2 pound strawberries, hulled and kept whole
1/4 cup fromage blanc
In a medium pot, bring wine, 2 tablespoons of the sugar, star anise and orange peel to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-high and boil until well reduced and syrupy, about 15 minutes; discard star anise and orange peel. Transfer hot syrup to a large bowl with strawberries and toss to coat. Serve immediately, or cover and chill for 8 hours or overnight. To serve, stir remaining 1 tablespoon sugar into fromage blanc and spoon over berries.
