Our Whole Foods Market Lincoln Park Cooking Classroom is on a mission to bring back and elevate home cooking in Chicago! We believe in teaching cooking classes for all skill levels; helping you make real food with ease, confidence, and passion. Our talented team of Cooking Specialists and Guest Chef’s offer weekly hands-on cooking classes for adults and children of all cooking comfort levels.

Basic Skills Series
Cooking with No Recipe

Thursday May 17th @7p | Hands-On| 2 ½ hour | $40

Do you have food in your refrigerator that needs to be used before it goes bad?  Are you tired of your same go-to recipes?  Come join our Cooking At Home Specialist, Sarah, as she shows you the simple skills you need to create delicious meals without a recipe.  In class you will create two meals for yourself with the random ingredients provided, all without a recipe!  If you participate in 6 Basic Skills Classes , you will get a 7th class for FREE.  See COOKING School Team Member for a punch card.

Basic Skills Series
Eating for Nutrition

Thursday May 24th @7p | Hands-On| 2 ½ hour | $40

So many diets come and go within a person’s life when they are trying to be healthy.  We would love to put to rest the term diet and teach people about a healthy food lifestyle.  Come join our Cooking At Home Specialist, Sarah, as she walks you through the steps to understanding what it means to eat for nutrition.  You will be shown you the techniques needed to create a lifestyle full of whole-food, nutrient-dense, mouth-watering recipes.  You will learn the techniques for steam frying, broth roasting, kale massaging, dairy free cream sauces and more!  Come hungry because you will be eating your creations throughout the class.  Class includes take home recipe cards.  If you participate in 6 Basic Skills Classes , you will get a 7th class for FREE.  See COOKING School Team Member for a punch card.

Pasta Class 101 
Friday May 11th @7p | Demonstration Style |2 hours | $40

Join Phillipe Sobon, a self taught chef living in Chicago, to learn how to make fresh pasta for your family and friends. He will be teaching you how to make 3 different types of pasta from scratch, how to incorporate a healthy twist into each one, show you how to make fresh ricotta and a delicious sauce using ingredients already in the pantry. Phillipe has been a finalist on Masterchef Season 5, a contestant on Food Network's Cooks vs. Cons Season 2, appeared in USA Today, WGN, a finalist for World Food Championships 2017, and has worked with Fabio Viviani and Graham Elliot. As a bonus, Phillipe will be offering 50% off his private dinners and catering packages.

Red Star Bartending: Agave Spirits

Get ready for your next BBQ or backyard party with modern cocktails featuring our favorite agave spirits! Join Nat, our Spirits director and master mixologist, as he puts an updated spin on warm weather classics like the Margarita and Paloma. If you’ve ever been curious about how this spirit is made, come taste the light and dark sides of Agave. We will briefly cover the history and production basics for Tequila and Mezcal which will lead into a tequila sampling that will rival the complexities of single malt Scotch. From crisp, floral blancos to rich, smokey extra-añejos.

 

Bartending classes take place in our Red Star Bar and light snacks will be served.

Wine Class
A French Primer

Join us as we take a “primer” tour through six great wine growing regions of France:  Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, the Loire Valley and Provence.  Taste the wines that have set the standard for winemakers worldwide, paired with tasting plates of the dishes often enjoyed with them.  Hosted by David Stowell, Whole Foods Chef and Somme.

Our school doors aren’t closed today!  We’d love to educate your child(ren) on their day off with a skill set that will be used for decades to come—cooking!  All participants will be shopping, prepping, cooking, eating and cleaning.  Most food is made from scratch and in season!  Today’s menu will include marinara and breadsticks, cauliflower mash, blueberry smoothie, R,W&B yogurt parfait cup.

July—Chefs in Training Cooking Camp

Class meets one day a weekfor 4 weeks @ 11a | Ages 10-16 | Hands-On | 4 hour class | $200

Tuesdays:  July 3, 10, 17, 24

Thursdays:  July 5, 12, 19, 26

Fridays:  July 6, 13, 20, 27

Day 1—Knife Skills, Measuring Tricks, Flavor Balancing

Day 2—Stove Top Cooking (Sautéing, Boiling, Steaming)

Day 3—Oven Cooking (Roasting, Baking, Broiling)

Day 4—Sauces (Cheese Sauce, Marinara Sauce, Chocolate Sauce, Soda Syrups)

 

The chef in training will receive a bag of tools on the first day of camp.  Included is an apron, 6 inch chef knife, measuring cups, measuring spoons, liquid measuring cup, wooden spoon and rubber spatula.  They will be required to bring their bag to each class and will be able to keep it when the series is over.
