Salud! Cooking School

Whether you’re new to the kitchen, want to sharpen your culinary skills or just want to have a fun night out with your spouse or friends, we have the cooking class for you at our Salud! Cooking School. Join us for demonstration, hands-on cooking, and wine classes, led by our own in-store instructors as well as some of the area's most exciting chefs, artisans and authors. Our instructional kitchen, located on the 2nd floor Whole Foods Market Green Hills offers affordable, recreational culinary education for all ages.

 

 

Seating and enrollment are on a first-come, first-served basis. If a class is sold out, please call 615-440-5117 or email us at salud.nashville@wholefoods.com to be placed on our waiting list. With some exceptions, registration closes 48 hours prior to class. Payment is made at the time of registration. If you are using a gift card or a gift certificate, you will need to call us as our registration system does not recognize either of those payment methods. After you have registered and paid, you will receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please let us know.

Be prepared to cook! Please remember to wear flat, closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Aprons and towels will be provided for your use in class. Students are divided into groups at the discretion of the instructor. Snacks are provided during class. Towards the end of class, you will be seated to enjoy your meal along with wine.

Classes are limited to 12 students ages 18 & over unless noted otherwise; students 16 and over may attend a limited number of classes with a registered parent or guardian with prior approval. 

Demonstration Classes

Relax and watch us do the work! You will be seated throughout the class and encouraged to ask lots of questions. Tastings of each recipe are served typically as they are prepared (to be consumed in class - no doggie bags!). Classes include up to two glasses of red or white wine. Classes are for students 18 & over unless noted otherwise; students under 18 may attend with a registered parent or guardian.

Kids & Teens Classes


Kids and teens should wear flat, closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing. Students are divided into groups at the discretion of the instructor. Snacks are provided during class and students are seated at the end of class to enjoy the meal they have prepared. Classes are limited to 12 students unless noted otherwise.

Wine & Cheese Classes


You will be seated throughout the class and encouraged to ask lots of questions as you taste each wine or cheese. Fruit, cheese and bread are served.

 

Allergens

While Salud! is not an allergen-free facility, we will do our best to make menu substitutions for you if you have an allergy. Not all dishes may be able to be altered. If you have certain dietary restrictions, please call us before registering so we can give you advice on which class will best suit your needs. Not all classes can be altered.

 

Cancellation Policy

Please note that refunds cannot be given for no-shows or cancellations made less than 48 hours prior to a class. Although we make every effort to avoid changes to our class schedule, Salud! reserves the right to cancel any class due to low registration or substitute instructors in case of an emergency.

Arrival

We recommend arriving 15 minutes prior to the start of class. And come hungry, you will be served a lot of food to be consumed in class - no doggie bags.

 

Want to Volunteer?

Volunteers assist the chefs during classes with setup, class needs, and cleanup. In turn, volunteers earn points to take free classes at Salud! and learn a bit as you go! For more information, contact us at 615-440-5117 and we will foward a volunteer packet.

NOTE: In order for us to properly prepare for a class we need the participants to be registered 24 hours prior to the class start time.

You will work hands-on to discover the techniques for making and rolling sushi. You’ll learn the basics including making and forming sushi rice, assembling fillings, and rolling ingredients using a bamboo mat to make beautifully shaped sushi. Of course, a glass of sake will complete our evening!

Do you have a young chef at your house? Join us for this Saturday morning class and learn to make donuts from scratch. Lots of fun, lots of donuts to sample and some quality time with that young person. This class is for ages 7 and up with one parent. Additional parents or children are $35 each.

When it comes to wine, we have our favorites, and we often get stuck on them. Sometimes we don’t try something new, because one of our friends had a bad one, and they’ve told us we won’t like it. The only way to cure that, is by trying something totally blind. Blind tastings can be very intimidating. However, when they are conducted in a fun environment, and with carefully selected wines, you might just discover something you didn’t know you liked! I promise, this is not going to be one where you have to guess what it is. I will pick well-made wines and there will be no scores; just your taste buds. This will be an opportunity to experience some wines, without any preconceived ideas.

Puff the Magic Pastry

Puff pastry has always been something magical. It appears to be sort of ordinary and then PUFF! In the oven it takes on a new life. Working with purchased 100% butter pastry, students will learn techniques to create classic recipes. Savory or sweet, perfectly shaped or just using the trimmings, you will love what you can do with this amazing pastry.

Having knife skills in the kitchen is one of the very basic ways to become a better cook. Out chefs know exactly how to help you master the basics of using a knife properly. We provide knives for you to use for practice, but feel free to bring your favorite one along. No serrated edges, please! You will chop, slice, dice and then prepare a light meal using all of your beautifully prepared fruits and vegetables. Great gift idea also!
