Ham vs. turkey. Gingerbread cookies vs. sugar cookies. There are plenty of debates centered on yuletide traditions. At my house, though, there’s no question: there will be eggnog.
Nog for Everyone
With lots of houseguests this month, my holiday motto is “Make some, buy some” so it’s Whole Foods Market® to the rescue. Not only is there organic traditional dairy eggnog, but there are also great non-dairy options to suit vegan or lactose intolerant celebrants.
And like all the products in our stores, these nogs are made without artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors or preservatives.
Here are a few of our favorite nogs on our shelves:
Traderspoint Creamery Organic Grass-Fed Eggnog. Reach for this creamy 100% organic, grass-fed, gluten-free, minimally-processed, sustainably-farmed and non-homogenized eggnog. (Say that 10 times fast!) It also uses recyclable glass packaging.
Califia Farms Almondmilk Holiday Nog opens in a new tab. Searching for a vegan eggnog with an almondmilk base? Here’s a lactose-, dairy- and gluten-free nog. Plus it’s Non-GMO Project opens in a new tab verified.
Organic Valley Organic Eggnog. This nog uses a traditional recipe using organic milk, cream, eggs, vanilla and nutmeg.
So Delicious Dairy Free Nog Coconut Milk Beverage. Made from organic coconuts, it’s dairy free and Non-GMO Project opens in a new tab verified.
A Nod to Nog Add-ins and Creative Uses
I like to make store-bought eggnog my own with simple additions like fresh grated nutmeg or better yet, a generous splash of booze. This year, I’m craving more creative ideas so I reached out to the unofficial Whole Foods Market hivemind (a handful of trusted and inventive team members). Here are their suggestions:
Treat eggnog as a decadent smoothie base and blend it with cranberries or cocoa. Try Cranberry Eggnog opens in a new tab.
Make eggnog au laits. Pour half a mug of heated nog and top with hot, dark coffee. Iced nog coffee would be tasty too.
Serve creamy and decadent hot chocolate with the addition of you guessed it…nog!
Nog in the morning? Sure! Try pancakes, tea breads with eggnog glaze, Eggnog and Ruby Red Grapefruit Muffins opens in a new tab or cookies. (I’ll be making Baked Eggnog French Toast opens in a new tab this year.)
Get creative with eggnog milkshakes. Add pumpkin puree and pie spice or booze.
Scoop up nog floats.
Jazz up teatime by experimenting with nog lattes with Earl Grey or chai. A matcha nog latte would be delicious and festively green!
