Jumpstart opens in a new tab is excited to partner with the Whole Kids Foundation® opens in a new tab to offer families a fantastic resource for young children to advance their reading skills, while learning about healthy foods.
At Jumpstart, we know it’s not just the quantity of reading that matters, but also the quality. Children who practice comprehension, make predictions and draw their own conclusions are more likely to improve their language, literacy and social-emotional development skills, increasing their knowledge of the world around them.
Working closely with the Whole Kids Foundation, we’ve created a monthly program of reading tips and activities to complement a series of children’s books, including Today is Monday by Eric Carle, The Ugly Vegetables by Grace Lin and How a Seed Grows by Helene Jordan. We’re thrilled to provide parents with these free resources to help build preschool aged children’s language skills and exposure to healthy foods through fun and exciting storybooks.
Starting this September, we’ll cover a new book every month. Just purchase the book (or check it out from your local library) and follow along with our printable reading tips, found on the Whole Kids Foundation website opens in a new tab.
You can also promote reading with your children by joining Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® opens in a new tab this fall. In partnership with the Pearson Foundation, Read for the Record brings together millions of people to celebrate literacy by setting a world record for the largest shared reading experience. This year on October 3rd, adults and children nationwide will read Otis, by Loren Long in support of Jumpstart’s mission: to work toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed.
