Get to Know Gose

Looking for a new, light-and-refreshing beer? Give gose a try! This crisp, sour, wheat beer is perfect to drink on its own or paired with a light meal like grilled proteins and veggies — or even fresh oysters.

What is gose?

Gose is an old German beer that has recently been revived among many craft brewers. First brewed in the 16th century in the town of Goslar, Germany, it's a top-fermented beer that is made with 50 to 60 percent malted wheat. It does not have a strong hoppy flavor; instead it tastes bright and crisp, with notes of citrus and herbs like lemon, lime, coriander seeds and salt. While gose is considered a sour beer, the level of sourness differs in each brew.

How to enjoy gose

A refreshing sipper, gose pairs well with lighter meals like fish and vegetables. Of course, it’s also a natural for any German-influenced recipe!

If you like cooking with beer, try gose in a few of these ways:

·      Deglazing a pan

·      In a reduction sauce instead of wine and vinegar

·      Poach sausages in gose for your Oktoberfest feast

·      Whisked into a vinaigrette

·      Cooked with fruits for a sauce

·      Swap in gose for another favorite brew in these beer braised mussels
