Trend Watch

We love talking trends and according to Google, we’re not the only ones. The search engine recently compiled the five most-searched food trends from January 2014 to February 2016, and some of the top-trending topics looked pretty familiar!

Korean Comfort Food

One of the tastiest steadily rising trends Google reported was bibimbap. Warm rice is topped with cold and cooked vegetables, and occasionally tofu, sliced meat, seafood or an egg. If you’re lucky, it’s served in a hot stone bowl with a splash of sesame oil so that the rice continues to cook, forming a crispy golden crust on the bottom. One of the most important ingredients in a good bowl of bibimbap is gochujang, a Korean red pepper paste that you add on top, right before mixing and digging in with a pair of Korean-style metal chopsticks.

If you haven’t tried gochujang, now’s the time.

Another trending theme with some real wings was the concept of traveling through taste. With a few ingredients, you can send your tastebuds on a journey — no passport required!

Make Your Food Work For You

Most food enthusiasts can agree that many meal choices are made based on taste or cravings, but according to Google’s findings, people are searching for terms such as turmeric, kefir, jackfruit and apple cider vinegar in a category they’re calling “Food With a Function.”

Cooking with turmeric adds antioxidants and color to your plate.
