Intelligentsia Coffee Doug Zell and Geoff Watts Chicago, IL Intelligentsia Coffee started 15 years ago, when the founders recognized a need for great coffee in Chicago. Now, they’re buying more than 2 million pounds of coffee from 18 countries in a year. As owner Doug Zell states, “It’s one of the most complex beverages in the world; it should have a really sweet, satisfying taste.” To him, this is the epitome of great coffee. But, also important is taking good care of the product and the people who provide it. Doing the right thing isn’t a choice; it’s a mantra that has carried over into every aspect of their business, from sourcing the coffee to paying the growers. Find out more about Intelligentsia Coffee in this short video.

Don’t live close enough to experience this coffee yourself? We’ve got great local vendors all around the country creating unique products like this. Check your local store for what’s available in your neck of the woods.

I used to get my coffee at Whole Foods Chicago — Intelligentsia Whole Foods Market Blend beans. I live in New York now. You don't seem to sell that bean in the store here. Is there any way to mail order this particular coffee? It's too good not to chase down.

@KATHLEEN - My apologies your local store doesn't carry it. We have a store in Austin that can ship non-perishable items. You can call them directly at 512-542-2243 to see if they have this in stock and if so, they can ship it to you.

Hi Guys, Just had your coffee at Joe's in Granada Hills, CA. We are visiting and would love to purchase your coffee before we leave. Do any of the grocery stores (Whole Foods, etc.) carry your yummy java? Thanks much!

@JOAN - I am unable to pull up where our stores will sell this since each region is in charge of their own buying. It does appear that you can shop from their website directly here: http://www.intelligentsiacoffee.com/.

I first tasted your coffee at Chateau Marmont in CA. I commented to the waiter that it was the best coffee I ever had. Moments later the head of the beverage department came out. I repeated what I said before. He was very pleased and told me it was Intelligetstia coffee. He said they were trying it out. I asked him where I could buy it and he said it came from Chicago. Well, I live in a suburb just west of Chicago. I had been a Starbucks gal but have made the move to you for a much better cup of coffee. Right in my own backyard and I find it in Chicago. Who knew!
