Wallaby Yogurt

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNER MARY FROM MADISON, WI. THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS! We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card. Doug Beretta is a family man. He’s one of four generations in Beretta Family Organic Dairy, a supplier of organic milk for Wallaby Yogurt. The dairy is based on a ranch that was bought in 1948 by Beretta’s grandfather, where the pasture-raised cows graze today. According to Beretta, the advantages of pasture-raising their cows are many. “You’re able to utilize your own land for feed. Organic feed costs are starting to get very expensive so we’re able to use our land to produce as much of the feed as we can.” In addition to the nutritional value of feeding cows on the pasture, “being on grass instead of concrete is a lot easier on the feet and legs of cows,” says Beretta. Wallaby’s founders were looking for family farms and pasture-based dairies with this type of commitment to their cows and their milk, so partnering with Beretta Family Organics made perfect sense. What do you think about the changes that Beretta Family Organic Dairy made when they switched from conventional to organic processes? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 9th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores. Click here to check out Wallaby’s products or visit our stores to taste them for yourself. We carry their full line of organic yogurt as well as their outstanding sour cream!

As an Aussie newly arrived in Chicago, I was starting to worry when I couldn't find whole milk yogurt for my 1 year old. Not surprisingly, the Wallaby brand caught my eye, and I am so pleased it did because the delicious organic yogurt is just like home and so good for my little one (and the whole family)! Thanks Wallaby / Wallababy and thanks Wholefoods!

Hopeful companies care. Too bad I'm poor with kids and a wanna-be homesteader and make my own. Otherwise for sure, I would buy Wallaby!

I think it's great that the cows are out in the pasture and not in on concrete. Healthier cows mean healthier milk.

I love love love Wallaby yogurt!!! The Blueberry and Lemon are my personal favorites. I like to freeze blueberries and add them to the lemon yogurt. Sometimes frozen banana chunks too! Yum! I like that the flavor tastes natural and the consistency is nice.

It's awesome that the efficiency went up after they went organic. And good for Wallaby for looking for family farms. I love Wallaby yogurt and their unique flavors (like the grapefruit or maple) - just had some today!

Organic is much better. The yogurt may taste better with organic. I would love to try different flavors of organic wallaby yogurt with that $50 gift card to the store.

I really appreciate the efforts of organic farmers! With regards to raising the cows, the statement "You’re able to utilize your own land for feed" speaks volumes about the respect this group has for people (the consumers), and for their animals! It takes special people to care more about quality and humanity more than profits. Kudos!

9/2/11 The quality of your yogurt products are the closest tasting to homemade than any on the market. Our family appreciates the texture of your yogurt, fruit not overly sweet and the flavors are scrumptious. Thanks for all your efforts in producing an amazing product!

I think that all farms should understand the value to the community by going organic. We need to fuel our bodies with healthy, wholesome food while being kind to the environment. I love what they are doing and feel they should continue to spread the word. Compassionate and healthy food everywhere will lead to a much better world. Great job!

I think it's really smart for the Beretta family to measure the quality of their product based on it being the best that they can feed their own family. By doing that, they are treating everyone like family.

Wallaby is some of the best yogurt. I always try to get some when I go to Whole Foods. I love the fact that there is so much care and thought put into making it. It's especially important because these days we don't always know where our food is coming from.

Great story! I love their yogurt!

Wallaby is by far my favorite yogurt. I'm so glad the family made the decision to go organic. Their comments about letting cows pasture feed and produce what they naturally can is a sensible and sustainable model that also seems healthier and more compassionate. Thank you for rethinking farming!

I applaud the Beretta family for their belief and mission on making socially and environmentally responsible products that promote healthy living and animal's rights. I was intrigued by the slide show of Beretta family and went on to the Wallaby website to do more researching. I also found them http://wallabyyogurt.com/farms/beretta-dairy I have never tried Wallaby yogurt but will check it out. Can't wait!

Glad Beretta Family Organic Dairy made the switch to organic processes and partnered with Wallaby. Organic farming is not that lucrative but it is better for everyone . . . from the cows to the people eating the yogurt. Thanks Beretta for making the change and as Claudia said you become successful when you treat people right . . . Beretta Family, to you, much success!!

I'm glad to hear that efficiency is up after going organic. I worry about America's dairy farmers and hope that by going organic they're able to make a better living. I would be interested to know if Beretta Farms saw higher profit margins with the change to organic. I applaud companies like Wallaby who make a commitment to farmers and encourage them to make changes like this.

Sonia says …

Good for the Beretta family for choosing to go organic for the environment and consumer.

Chelsea says …

Stephanie says …

I'm certainly glad they went organic - my family and I LOVE Wallaby yogurt! Their success as organic farmers also shows that the switch to organic is not only good for the farm in a business sense, but also the earth, the consumers, their animals - everyone involved!

Saroya says …

I celebrate the fact that the Wallaby yoghurt took things back to basics and proved it cost effective. I tasted the dark chocolate flavor and I eat it all the time. I use the European styled sour cream for all my cooking needs. It really makes my food taste fresher, and they become something I am really proud to serve to my family.

Amy Funicello says …

I've loved their yogurt because of the taste and variety, but now I love them a little more for their commitment to the planet and to future generations.

Krystin says …

It is refreshing to hear that profit is not the end-all reason for this partnership. Family farms are having a tougher time staying afloat and it is terrific to see an organic family farm being recognized and utilized so well. Hurrah!

Sharon says …

Every company that chooses to go organic helps to save our planet. I applaud Wallaby for their initiative, and their yogurt is amazing. The government supports factory farming with subsidies. Consumers can step up to make that difference and make organic farming viable buy purchasing organic products whenever possible. We aren't a powerful lobby, but there are more of us. We CAN make a difference.

Vicky says …

My son loves Wallaby yogurt. It is YUM! And what's even better is finding out that the yogurt is made from grass fed cows. The product is better for the customer, better for the farmers, for the cows, ... For everyone.

Deb VP says …

Thank you for taking the time to do it right. The more organically we eat - the less chemicals we injest - helps everyone in the long run. You should be proud!

Diane says …

I'm very pleased they have chosen to go organic and also think it makes for a better quality of life for the cows who will in turn produce better milk because of these ideal conditions. It is a win-win for the farmer, the animals, and the consumers purchasing their products. Glad to see farmers with a conscious.

helenlam says …

I definitely applaud them for making this change. It's not easy to undertake but it is better for the animals.

Their dedication to providing a superior product is inspiring - more companies should follow their lead! Kudos to Wallaby.

Its nice to read that people actually consider the comfort and health of the cows.

As a prior vegan, I was thrilled to know that the welfare of the animals(having greater access to pasture) was a concern for the Wallaby company.
