Take a Cooking Class

We've got great classes, just for kids. All classes are suitable for 5-12 year olds unless otherwise listed. All classes are intended to be drop-off classes, unless otherwise listed, and are signed up for individually. Pre-registration is required for all cooking classes. Here's what's coming up this year. If you see a class you're intersted in marked as "Sold out" please contact us at 612.927.8141 or ani.loizzo@wholefoods.com and we can add you to the waiting list for that class in case there is a cancellation.

AUGUST

Saturday, August 10th | 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Kids in the Kitchen: Basic Baking- SOLD OUT!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. If you missed out on the first Summer baking class, here’s another round of our most popular kids’ class: beginning baking. Many kids have a sweet tooth (or teeth!), and baking is a great way to learn reading comprehension, math, science and more in the kitchen. In this fun class, we’ll learn how to make some kid friendly baking classics. You’ll make your own cheese empanadas, strawberries and cream cookies, peanut butter and jelly bars and carrot cake muffins. You’ll learn all about ingredients and what many different baking terms like “cream”, “whip” and “sift” mean. This class is good for vegetarian kids, but cannot be gluten free or vegan. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Please note that this class is longer than our usual Saturday classes, and that a main meal will not be served, though there will theoretically be plenty of treats to take home. Pre-registration is required.

Cost: $20 per kid

Wednesday, August 14th | 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The Global Kids Kitchen Camp Stays in the USA (Session 1)- FOUR OPEN SPOTS!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. School may be out, but it’s never a bad time to learn about history, geography, art, language and more…especially if you get to eat your homework! In this fun class, we’ll learn all about the history of America, culture and cuisine. We’ll learn all about the ingredients that go into American foods, the different cooking methods behind them, and taste all sorts of delicious things! This class has vegetarian and gluten free options available upon request (please specify when registering) but cannot be vegan. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Pre-registration is required. On the menu:

  • Watermelon Juice
  • Pimento Cheese Dip with Veggies
  • Jucy Lucys (Inside Out Cheeseburger)
  • Cornbread Muffins with Honey Butter
  • Make Your Own Potato Salad
  • Three Sisters Salad
  • Strawberry Shortcakes

Kids in the Kitchen: On a Roll- THREE OPEN SPOTS!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. There are so many delicious things to cook, and some of the very best are things that we can roll up and eat. In this class, we’ll explore three types of rolled foods from around the world: shrimp and veggie spring rolls, ground turkey egg rolls, and sweet cheese blintzes with cherries. You’ll learn all about the different types of wrappers for rolled foods, how to make delicious crepe like pancakes, and how to make a few delicious dipping sauces too.  This class has vegetarian options available upon request (please specify when registering) but cannot be vegan or gluten free. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday, August 24th | 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Kids in the Kitchen: The Brunch Bunch- SOLD OUT!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. Breakfast time is a great time to cook! There are so many fun things to cook and lots of batters and doughs to mix up, not to mention all the delicious ways to top things like yogurt, pancakes, scrambled eggs and more. In this class, we’ll learn all about eggs, different flours for different types of doughs and batters, and how to use spices and herbs. We’ll whisk up jammy granola yogurt parfaits, cinnamon roll pancakes, toad in the hole (contains no toads) and build your own scrambled egg breakfast sandwiches. This class has vegetarian options available upon request (please specify when registering) but cannot be vegan or gluten free. Please note that this class is a little earlier than our usual Saturday classes. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday, September 7th | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Kids in the Kitchen: A Knack for Snacks- SOLD OUT!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. We’re big on breakfast, love lunch and dinner is delightful, but sometimes, you get hungry in between meals, especially when you’re learning hard in school. In this class, we’ll learn how to make some of Chef Ani’s favorite snacks that kids can make all by themselves. We’ll talk about how to make a snack that is delicious and good for you, and whip up some yummy treats that are perfect for after school. Our snacks will be smashed guacamole with jicama, peanut butter and jelly frozen yogurt cups, onirigi (Japanese rice balls), watermelon smoothie and pizza dip. This class has vegetarian options available upon request (please specify when registering) but cannot be vegan or gluten free. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Pre-registration is required.

Saturday, September 21st | 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Kids in the Kitchen: Cupcake Artists- SOLD OUT!

This class will be taught by Chef Ani. Cupcakes are yummy and super fun to make, and even more fun to decorate. In this class, we’re going to whip up some treats that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Chef Ani will show you how to make buttercream frosting and turn it all sorts of different colors, how to use cookies, marzipan and candy to decorate, and how to use different piping techniques to make unicorn cupcakes, beehive cupcakes, cheeseburger cupcakes and sunflower cupcakes. This class is good for vegetarian kids, but cannot be gluten free or vegan. Classes are suitable for kids ages 5-12, and are drop off classes- kids only please! Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Please note that this class is a little later than our usual Saturday classes, and that a main meal will not be served, though there will theoretically be plenty of treats to take home. Pre-registration is required.

We will no longer be offering birthday parties at our Uptown location. All currently scheduled birthday parties will take place as planned, but no new reservations will be accepted.
