Blake Mycoskie is the Founder and Chief Shoe Giver of TOMS, and the man behind the One for One® movement.
During my travels with TOMS, I witnessed how the lack of safe water impacted communities we visited with TOMS Giving Partners. Children and their families were often sick and family members were kept from school or work to gather water.
Over 700 million people don’t have access to safe water (Source: WHO/UNICEF (2014)) and more than 840,000 people die each year from water related disease – that’s the population of San Francisco!I knew that with the right product, the TOMS community could make a powerful contribution towards solving the global water crisis, and help others become part of the solution.
TOMS Roasting Co. was founded on the idea that your daily ritual can help transform lives. Our specialty coffees are sourced from Rwanda, Honduras, Peru, Guatemala and Malawi – countries where the TOMS’ community can have a life-changing impact by providing clean water to communities in need. For every bag of coffee purchased, TOMS provides a week’s worth of safe water to a person in need.
And, with World Water Day opens in a new tab tomorrow (Sunday, March 22), we have an exciting and timely statistic to share – since we launched TOMS Roasting Co. at Whole Foods Market, shoppers have helped us to provide more than 100,000 weeks of water to people in need, and we know this is just the beginning!Buying TOMS coffee is one way to make a difference, but simply spreading awareness can make a big impact, too. Please help us celebrate World Water Day and bring attention to the importance of safe water and sustainable management of water resources.
