Make the Most of Mangoes

Mango is one of the most popular fruits in the world, and it’s easy to see why — the creamy flesh makes for satisfying snacking, while the bright, fruity flavor enlivens sweet, spicy and savory dishes.

Baked Salmon with Warm Mango Salsa

Mango season in Hawaii would always inspire me and my friends to throw a tropical mango party. Have you ever been to a party like that? It’s quite a lot of fun and a great way to celebrate delicious, decadent mangoes. We would put on our swimsuits and sit in a hot tub eating sliced mangoes, drinking sparkling wine and listening to our favorite island music. I wish we had known about party-perfect Mango Sake Sling and Mango Mimosas back then.

New to mangoes? Once you’ve tasted a sweet, succulent mango, there’s no going back. If you’re not sure how to cut it, here’s one easy method:

  1. Slice off the two cheeks on either side of the flat, oblong mango pit.

  2. Taking care not to cut through the skin, make vertical lines about 1/4 inch apart.

  3. Scoop out slices with a large spoon.

Mango Butter

Now you’re ready for these “mango-licious” ideas!

  • Add diced mangoes to hot or cold cereal.

  • Make bread or muffins with chopped fresh or dried mangoes. Try spiced Pumpkin Chai Bread for breakfast or a snack with a cup of coffee or tea. Mango Tea Bread is flavored with fresh and dried mango and banana. 

  • Make a tropical fruit salad with mangoes, bananas, guava, pineapple, papaya and kiwi.

  • For a tasty leafy green salad, top with sliced mangoes and roasted macadamia nuts.

  • Celebrate mangoes with island-style recipes like Mango Crab Sushi and Mango Miso Tofu Salad.

  • Mango Butter is simple to make and tastes great on toast, biscuits and muffins, or spooned over hot cereal.
