Three Cheers for Raspberries!

When I was a kid in Wisconsin, we had raspberry and black raspberry bushes growing in our backyard. Once those berries started to ripen, the family would head out every day and pick as many as we wanted for an afternoon snack. Even our Springer Spaniel was in on the act, snagging the low fruit while we went for the higher ones that tempted the neighborhood birds.

Unfortunately, the bushes were mowed over by my over-enthusiastic brother, and I also moved to Texas, where growing raspberries isn’t quite as easy. Luckily, I can still get my fix thanks to Whole Foods Market®, and when those berries go on sale I can’t help but buy three or four cartons at a time. Raspberries are more than my favorite fruit, they’re a part of me: in 2011 I had a raspberry vine inked onto my arm.

My son has become quite a raspberry fiend too, and even though we’re both content to eat them right from the carton, adding raspberries to recipes is a nice way to freshen up a dish and helps prevent berry overload! (If there is such a thing.)

Here’s a few of my favorite raspberry recipes:

Raspberry-Walnut Salad with Mt. Tam Cheese

Raspberry Mousse
Vanilla Berry Yogurt Parfaits

Apple-Berry Baked Oatmeal
