Chef Chloe’s “Just-Can’t-Holiday-Without” Vegan Staples

Here are the vegan holiday essentials from Whole Foods Market that Chloe says she just can’t face the holidays without. Shop early for these expert picks so you know your pantry is prepped and ready to tackle any holiday dinner or dessert.

1. Frozen Vegetables

Even professional chefs recognize the value of keeping 365 by Whole Foods Market frozen vegetables on hand. As Chloe says, “You're not going to get a medal at the end for doing everything from scratch start to finish at the holidays. It's about how it tastes in the end, so take any shortcut you can.” And because “there’s no need to be crying the morning of Thanksgiving, have a bag of frozen chopped onions for your gravy.” Chefs — they’re just like us!

2. No-Chicken Bouillon Base

Chloe loves adding a teaspoon of Better Than Bouillon No Chicken Vegetarian Base to almost anything savory because of its umami-packed flavor along with onions, garlic and carrots. Because a lot of vegan holiday cooking is heavy on the broth, using a broth concentrate is a great space-saving way to have plenty of it on hand.

3. Nondairy Whipped Topping

Head to the freezer aisle for Chloe’s favorite 365 by Whole Foods Market Plant-Based Whipped Topping in a tub, or DIY a whipped topping with a can of 365 by Whole Foods Market Organic Coconut Cream. Chloe suggests whipping the coconut cream until very stiff with a dry sweetener, like organic powdered sugar, and a touch of cinnamon. And now for the best part — you can do this up to four days ahead. It will stay whipped and leave you free to do other things on the big day.

4. Frozen Pie Shells

Pick up a 2-pack of frozen Wholly Wholesome Organic Traditional Pie Shells. According to Chloe “You can't do a holiday season without stocking up on those. They’re an absolute must to keep in your freezer so you can whip up a very quick pie.”

5. Nondairy "Ice Cream"

Chloe likes to keep at least four pints of the 365 by Whole Foods Market Almondmilk Vanilla Bean Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert stocked up in her freezer “just in case you pull together a last-minute gathering and someone brings a delicious pie or cake. You always want to be able to offer up that à la mode option.” We couldn’t agree more — this year calls for extra à la mode.
