Eros Yogurt

CONGRATULATION TO OUR WINNER PATRICIA FROM ANN ARBOR, MI. THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR GREAT COMMENTS! We love our producers, suppliers and vendors and we think most of them have some pretty interesting stories behind their products too. We’ll be sharing some of our favorites here in an ongoing series. Read on for a chance to win a $50 gift card. What does it take to run a creamery? If you’re Jennifer Bice, it takes lots of care, concern and meticulous attention to detail. The organic creamery behind Eros Organic Greek Yogurt, is operated 100% on solar power from two acres of solar panels. Running on these solar panels is “equal to taking 76 cars off the road, planting 110 trees or powering over 50 homes, “ Bice says. “Creameries use tremendous amounts of energy so we’re constantly looking at new ways that we can deliver the product in a more sustainable fashion.” In addition to solar energy, the creamery uses motion-sensored lights that only come on when needed in order to minimize lighting usage, has electric car charging stations (also operated by solar power) and a computer-operated water system that measures the exact amount of water needed to clean their operational equipment. The same consciousness applies not only to the creamery, but also to their relationship with Diamond W Dairy, their award-winning dairy producer. Using one dairy to provide all of the milk for Eros yogurt means that they can save in transportation resources as well as get fresh, high-quality milk to the creamery faster. “We really wanted the best and most high quality milk, so we’ve formed a partnership with the Diamond W Dairy because they have one of the best dairies in Sonoma County,” says Bice. Brothers Ron and Ken Wilson run the dairy, which provides organic milk from 600 cows to supply all of the milk that goes into Eros Yogurt. The Wilson brothers are the third generation of their family to run their farm and they’re known for the care with which they treat their cows. “We want to make sure the animals are taken care of; I think it just tastes better in the end product.” says Bice. “Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is exclusive to Whole Foods Market, is one of the few organic Greek yogurts, and on top of that, it’s delicious!” Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is available in plain, vanilla, honey, strawberry and blueberry and is found only in our stores. What do you think about the efforts that Eros Organic Greek Yogurt makes to conserve resources in its creamery? Watch the slideshow above and leave a comment with your answer by September 27th. One comment will be chosen at random to win a $50 gift card to our stores.

It's great to see that companies do really care about environmental responsibility. When a company cares about it's employees, the environment and the product it shows! I'm going to give Eros yogurt a try!

I am new to the movement and have been eating cheap food. However, after watching some scary documentaries and movies, and reading some scary articles, I am convinced that food should not be part of the mass production machine.

Vanessa says …

Doing things as they were done in the past (organic, building community with employees...) making the most out of nowadays developments (e.g. solar panels). Congratulations!

I think it's a pretty good mentality to have for such a company. Most people wouldn't think about a farm "going green" but to see the steps that you guy took, it's impressive. I also really enjoyed the cute pictures of the big doe eyes baby cows. Lets see more of those! :) ~Liz

YES! Continued support for organics! From the resource to the final product - Eros is highly commended for bringing forth a product of sustainability. So good to know of the efforts done to bring about healthy eating through healthy products available to everyone - especially at Whole Foods Market. If the product is at Whole Foods Market - the product is CLEAN.

Sustainable energy is one of the principals that support helthy ecosystems, so thank you "Eros Yogurt" for being helping the environment of future generations. So, buying your yogurt would have double purpose for me: one is to give my sons a helthy meal and another to contribute to the long-term maintenance of the social end environmental well being.

Linda Russell says …

What an inspiration to all producers!! Way to go Jennifer! I definitely will support your business. And by the way the cows are so cute and look so happy! Thanks for all your hard work to sustain our natural resources!

Emily says …

Solar = awesome! I hope I can tour the creamery one day!

I love how the Wilson family works together as a family but also embrace those who work for them in the same way. They treat their cattle with such care. I think Eros wouldn't turn out as good as it does were it not for their passion for their family business. Their efforts to conserve resources are a result of working together closely and having a desire to put out the best product available. It's not easy to do that as a collective effort in most businesses. I'm so impressed with this family and their business!

Rebecca Wish Esche says …

yum!

Haley N says …

it's so refreshing to see somebody finally try to conserve resources!

Deborah says …

Taking care of the land and the people that work for you....what a concept...too bad more folks don't model this positive workplace.

Mary Tagert says …

It is fun to shop in your store. I can pick up any item and know that it is free of hydroginated oils, and high fructose corn syrup. There are entire sections of a traditional grocery store that I avoid. It is exhausting to shop at other stores because I need to read everything to avoid the additives that we don't bring into our house. Thank you, you have made shopping enjoyable again

Amy T. says …

Wow!!! Interesting article... I'd try their products.

Yousef Matariyeh says …

It is amazing to see people put such effort into a product for the benefit of others including their own benefit. I applaud their effort and commitment

Felicia Linder says …

I think the efforts Eros Organic Greek Yogurt is making to conserve resources in their creamery is a wonderful thing. I wish more food producers fwlt this way because it would be better for our planet.
