Kids World Party

Read on for a chance to win a 14-CD set from Putumayo’s Kids Playground series along with Kids World Party. Dan Storper is the CEO and Founder of Putumayo World Music. Kids World Party, a global medley of fun tunes from Trinidad to South Africa, launches the new Kids Party music series for Putumayo. Like the acclaimed Playground and Dreamland collections, Kids Party is sure to please adults too! With the release of World Playground in 1999, Putumayo Kids established its children’s music collections as passports to learning about the world’s cultures. Kids World Party marks a return to these global roots with 12 fun, danceable songs accompanied by a multilingual (English, Spanish, French, German), child-friendly booklet that explores how children worldwide celebrate special occasions. The CD comes enclosed in a new eco-friendly package without a plastic tray. Kids World Party also marks the start of a very special relationship with Amnesty International, in commemoration of the Noble Peace Prize-winning organization’s 50th anniversary, and continues a long Putumayo tradition of tying music and humanitarian work together in a seamless fashion. Fifty cents from the sale of each Kids World Party CD will go to Amnesty in support of their work to promote and protect human rights worldwide. A sampling of the artists featured on Kids World Party include famed Indian pop and Bollywood singer Lucky Ali, who contributes “Kitni Haseen Zindagi,” a song that celebrates life. South Africa’s Sharon Katz and The Peace Train, whom Nelson Mandela appointed as a Cultural Ambassador of the nation, has thrilled international audiences with the beats and harmonies of their music, and delights listeners with “Sanalwami.” The infectious “Afro-Cuban Funk” of Cuban-American band PALO! is heard on their song “Quimbombó” — the Spanish word for okra, a type of vegetable used to make stews in Louisiana, Cuba and Africa. Watch and hear a sample in this music video. Also featured on Kids World Party is bilingual (English-French) singer Will Stroet, an award-winning Canadian musician whose song “Le boogie à vélo” tells children that you can boogie even while riding a bike safely. U.S. musicians Tom Freund and Friends performs the participatory song “Freezedance” and fellow American Eric Bibb rounds out the collection with Jackie Wilson’s classic soul tune “Higher and Higher.” We think this CD is going to be the hit of your next kids’ party. In that light, what’s the best kids’ party you ever created or attended? Leave a comment below by July 26th for a chance to win a 14-CD collection from Putumayo Kids Playground series plus the newly released Kids World Party. That’s a lot of music! One comment will be selected randomly to win. Good luck!

The best kids' party I was ever able to be a part of was a school party where we celebrated different countries. It was the end of the year and we wanted to celebrate diversity so each classroom chose a country and then each class took a turn moving from room to room listening to different music, eating different foods, making crafts and even trying on various costumes. We had a blast!

I love using music to interest my students in other cultures and languages. Having music to span the continents would truly enhance their education about the world and peace.

My kids, my husband and I love Putumayo World Playground! It is the greatest combination of rhythms and voices we can all enjoy together ever and ever and ever and ever again!!! We threw a Spring time party for our kids' friends last year: each kid decorated a pot, using their imagination and paintings and stickers. Then kids planted seeds in their pots and took them home. Everyone, parents and kids, had a blast!

For my sons 2 year old birthday we had a "bike" party. Every kid brought a bike, balance bike, scooter, trike or ride on toy to our house. We have a huge driveway and all the kids rode up and down. We had Gluten free/sugar free cupcakes shaped like tires! So fun.

The best kids is the Saturday night dance party we have every weekend with our son to the NPR blues show. Music brings people together across cultures and is hugely important in our home. I think music breaks down boundaries and brings peace- it's the one language everyone on the planet speaks universally.... Thank you for the chance to continue to expose our son to many cultures music to help educate him that the world is a much bigger place than our living room!

Melinda says …

Music is a great way to for kids to learn about other cultures with out being able to travel the world.

The best kids' party I ever attended? It's a toss-up. On the one hand, I loved my friend's son's elaborate pirate party. She did a budget-conscious Martha Stewart and had her husband making balloon pirate swords (which he learned how to do on YouTube). There were two homemade cardboard cutouts of pirate ships which two teams of party-goers hid behind to throw balled up newspapers (cannonballs) at each other. There was a treasure hunt with clues and prizes at each stop. Great homemade party. On the other hand . . . with all the brouhaha that can come with kid parties (extravagant in financial backing and/or parental time and exhaustion to make it homemade), one of my friends goes old-school. Backyard parties, Pin the Tail on the Donkey, musical chairs, pinata. Prizes for one child who wins each game (scandalous!) and opening gifts during the party (what?!?!?) One year, there weren't even goodie bags (aka, landfill bags). The kids seem just as happy, and since it's so rare to attend those kinds of parties, it's refreshing.

Knight and princess party. My son made a large three sided cardboard castle with functioning drawbridge and he helped with a homemade castle fortress shaped pinata. Goody bags were handmade knight's saddle bags for the boys and pink frilly princess bags for the girls. The kids decorated crowns and tiaras we made.

The best parties we have had for our nearly four year old daughter involve everything fun for kids. Music, bubbles, sand, water, healthy snacks, slides, climbing, jumping, hula hooping, crawling, tossing, catching, swinging, running, pedaling, bouncing and some times swimming too. Any kind of kid oriented games along with prizes and goody bags and sometimes balloons. It would be so awesome to include these cds to our music selection!

Kelly Murphy says …

We love to throw kids parties at the park so that the kids can run and play and just enjoy themselves.

corey says …

my son and i love to dance, and play our instruments

Shirley Woo-Hwang says …

I am a music teacher, so the best party I created was filled with a table for making instruments out of household items which doubled as party favors, another table had ethnic instruments to expose the children to different sounds from other countries and of course, singing childhood songs as well as songs in different languages.

Leanne says …

The most creative party I've done was my daughter's 3rd bday. She chose Little Einsteins as her "theme", but I created our own games and stories in their style. Since I am a violinist, I played all the little classical and folk tunes for the kids "live" as we played. All the kids then had an opportunity to try a violin with my help, which most of them had never done and they loved it! We are huge appreciators of music in our house and my daughter would LOVE to have Putumayo CDs! She asks for them every time we visit Whole Foods!

Lizet says …

I first heard some of these songs a couple of years ago and I love them! Now with my 7 month old girl I would love to win this! Thanks in advance! :)

Terri Corbett says …

Would love this set for my daughter!

My favorite birthday party from my childhood, roundabouts age 9: paint homemade wooden hockey sticks, then play lime hockey (i.e. hockey with limes) around the yard, and finish up with decorate-your-own cupcakes and dancing.

amorette says …

birthday parties are always great, but i would have to say that a friend's child's party we attended at a local park was great- food for snacking for parents and kids, playground nearby and free carousel rides, and a great fresh DIY cake of pre-made vanilla cupcakes, whipped cream and fresh raspberries!

t says …

A very low key 2 year party for my niece. It was a mickey mouse theme, but without all of the commercial stuff. The only thing commercial was the banner that we borrowed.

MJackson says …

I would like to win the CD because my grandchildren have birthdays in the next few months. The CD would provide the theme for their birthdays.

Jeanine says …

My kids are in high school now and still remember the simple dress parties, dancing in the garden, playing musical chairs. We made puzzles out of trays of brownies. Would love to share your music with my younger nieces and nephews.

Ashley Leah says …

I haven't been to any such parties since I was a kid myself! However I am a new parent and will need to be creative in the not too distant future. Given our daughter's very mixed cultural and lingual background we would love to win these CDs.

shawna says …

The best kids party I ever attended was for my nephew....there were tons of games for the kids with prizes for all, a facepainter, a caricature artist drawing each of the kids a pic of themselves to take home, musical entertainment by a group of kids, and the food was amazing! Everyone had an amazing time!

Aurora Crosetti says …

the best kids party? probably the spring party where we celebrate everything coming back to life, and the kids plant seeds and play outside.

Elizabeth P says …

My grandson loves to dance. He surely will enjoy these CDs!

Stephanie Hemphill says …

I love introducing new music to my girls that we all can listen to and shows us the diversity of music. We own a couple of the CD's but would love to hear more.

anita d'souza says …

My cousin's elder son's baptism. The ceremony was in church, but the party was outside at a park and we had a blast with all the kids playing in the stream.

erin feldman says …

Best kids party actually happened on the Appalachian Trail: it was pipe cleaner crown making on a mountaintop. We then wore them for the remainder of the 5 day trek!

Melissa says …

My kids are still little, but the best parties are the ones where the kids (and "grownups") can run around and just PLAY...no fancy themes or games. My daughter and her friends can run around my house, hunting "lions" for hours...thank goodness they haven't found any yet!

Tish Tarpley says …
