Looking for Kosher Poultry?

Kosher Valley We got it! That's right, just in time for the Jewish High Holy Days, we now offer a new line of certified kosher chicken and turkey, available in most of our U.S. stores. (We say "most" because our meat buyer says that some of our smaller stores don't have room to carry much and others may sell out, so we want to be cautious and not over-promise. You can always call your local store to check availability.) These new products are provided by Kosher Valley™, a new certified kosher brand from Hain Celestial Group (Hain Pure Protein), and are certified by Rabbi Yechiel Babad and the Orthodox Union. Kosher Valley's antibiotic-free kosher line is one of the first of its kind in the United States. According to Kosher Valley, many steps in kosher poultry processing are still performed by hand. Specially trained rabbinical inspectors check each bird ensuring that it is of the highest quality and processed in accordance with the kosher standards of cleanliness, purity and wholesomeness. All Kosher Valley poultry is hand-salted, inside and out, to remove blood since meat with blood in it is considered non-kosher. After salting, each bird is soaked three times in icy water to thoroughly cleanse the bird and remove the salt. Like all poultry sold at our stores, the new Kosher Valley products must also meet our strict standards requiring that the birds are raised on a vegetarian diet with no antibiotics. Looks for kosher poultry in our stores now, including fresh and frozen whole young turkeys, ground turkey, fresh and frozen chicken, and tray packs of both turkey and chicken.

I've heard from a family member that Empire Kosher Turkeys taste great, but they have lots of feathers left in them and it took her a few hours to pluck them all out. Is that the case with the Kosher Valley thru Whole Foods Kosher Turkeys since they were recently acquired by Empire? Please let me know as soon as possible because I have just reserved a Kosher turkey at Whole Foods.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@PATRICIA - Well that doesn't sounds like a fun process! Check with your local store directly to see if they carry these and they can fill you in on the amount of feathers.

I have been trying to purchase Kosher Valley ground turkey at Whole Foods in the San Fernando Valley. Yesterday was the third time I went to WF, only to be told they had NO Kosher Valley ground turkey. Instead they were selling their own brand, which was previously frozen. The second time the butcher told me he looked in the back, and there was no KV ground turkey, I told the manager at the front how disappointed I was. The manager went to look, and found a box of Kosher Valley ground turkey that had NOT been put in the meat display case, AFTER the butcher told me he could not find any KV ground turkey. Why is WF not stocking this wonderful product? The butcher last night told me I was not the only person who had asked for it.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@MARY - My apologies for the runaround. It was great that you spoke with store leadership so this could be brought to their attention. Hopefully the store will have this stocked more often for you.

I am a whole foods shopper for 6 years now, because I want to feed my family quality organic products. I called Whole Foods here in Honolulu to ask about Kosher meat and poultry they say they only bring during Holidays. I am shopping every week here but never saw Kosher Chicken or meat. How can we have them bring kosher organic meat and poultry?

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@DANIELA - My apologies that your local store hasn't had what you're looking for. You can either leave your feedback with your local store leadership directly, or you can reach out to the regional office in charge of your area to provide feedback to them as well since buying is done at the store and regional level. Here is the regional contact info: http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company-info/regional-offices.

I'm aware Empire acquired Kosher Valley several years ago. I only hope when your Palm Desert store opens in the fall, you will carry those products. Looking forward with anxiety.

I was looking for a fresh turkey last minute and found an 18lb fresh Kosher Valley brand turkey. I had never purchased this brand before so I wasn't sure how it was going to taste, but it had to be fresh and I liked what I read on the packaging regarding the turkey being organic, etc. so I bought it. I will never buy any other turkey other than Kosher Valley!!!! It was the best tasting turkey my family has ever had, and I have cooked many. My mother who is 76 years old, and "quite the cook" said it was the best turkey she has ever had. I have purchased every brand of turkey there is and I will never buy any other brand. Thank you so much and I would advise anyone wanting the perfect turkey to purchase a Kosher Valley one!

I was thrilled when whole foods started carrying kosher poultry. It was one less stop to make. Unfortunately, more times than not, the chicken is spoiled. This has happened whether I purchased refrigerated chicken and immediately put it in the freezer, frozen chicken, or the flash frozen bagged poultry. It also has no relevance to where I've bought the chicken. I've thrown out more more chicken than I've eaten. Until I can be assured that this issue is resolved, I will not be purchasing Kosher Valley meat again.

Is this poultry kosher and organic? Are they carried in the store on 202 in PA ? I wish you would build a store in DE..I live in Dover and it would be nice to be able to shop local.. Thank you

I would suggest to check with the PA store directly to see if they have an organic Kosher vendor in stock as our product options can differ. Often there is no kosher chicken available at my Whole Foods in Coral Gables 33134 and twice I bought spoiled Kosher Valley chicken (whole roaster chickens) at this whole foods. The chicken came out grey and felt soft and smelled of sulfur like eggs. Very sad - especially since the nearest kosher market is very far from my house and I was so excited to be able to buy kosher meat closer to home.

nyomi pfeffer says …

The Kosher Valley ground chicken is very, very salty. I made Chicken meat balls and added only some egg to bind the mixture and a little garlic powder and that was it. I figured it was salted already why add more. I did not know that it was so highly salted. I will buy the regular chicken and wash off the salt as much as I can, but never the ground chicken. TOO SALTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

donna Harman says …

Robert Stoner says …

Thank you for supplying kosher poultry!!!

Gal says …

I was told by my local Whole Foods that this company uses GMO soy and corn to feed their chickens. Is this true? If so, why would whole Foods carry this brand when there are other companies out there that are organic and kosher? Even Trader Joes sells non GMO organic kosher chicken.

Terry Leno says …

Do you sell kosher turkeys' Thanks

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@GAL - If you're looking to avoid GMOs, look for options that are organic since GMOs are prohibited according to USDA regulations.

Nikki - Community Moderator says …

@TERRY - Our exact options will differ between stores so check with your local store to see if they have Kosher options in stock!
