Win a Care Package for Your Pet

Congratulations to JJ and Adrienne for winning their respective cat and dog each a fantastic care package! And thanks to all of you who submitted a response; you gave us lots of ideas for our own pampered pooches and crafty kitties. Does your dog or cat have a favorite treat? We want to know what it is! Carrots, apples, liverwurst…whatever it is, we want to hear about it. We’re giving away two care packages of healthy treats — one to a randomly selected dog owner and the other to a randomly selected cat owner — just enter your pet’s favorite healthy treat as a comment below by July 21st! What’s that…your pet’s favorites aren’t healthy? Well, we won’t disqualify you. Your pet may need the care package more than others! Tell us what treats they eat now, healthy or not. A little over a year ago, I got a puppy. The week before I picked him up, I researched training treats like crazy. I wanted to make sure he started his life off healthy (and obediently) with treats that were free of byproducts and artificial stuff. Once I got him home, I discovered that not only did he LOVE the treats I’d settled on, but he also LOVED frozen broccoli florets. Nothing beats a refreshing frozen broccoli floret on a hot summer day! What’s your pet’s favorite healthy treat? Enter your comment below by July 21 and you just might win a care package for your pet. Note: The winning pet care packages will be created with an array of these products.

Our dogs are not picky. They will eat anything. Really. It is gross. The cats are picky, but one of them loves the Eagle Pack lamb and rice dog food - that is a bit odd I suppose. We give her a few pieces of the dog food as a treat sometimes when we feed the dogs because she likes their food so much. And they all love to eat the skin of salmon when we cook salmon. Yum!

Our puppy, Phoenix, LOVES peanut butter! As soon as I go into the kitchen he is right there sitting attentively waiting for a lick, or (if he's lucky) a puppy kong full of peanut butter for him to lick clean. He also loves ice cubes! He will put it in his mouth, trot off to the living room, and suck and chew on it until it is all gone.

My two daschunds (1 orange/red, 1 small black/tan) love store bought brand: Nutri-dent dental chews. However, at home when cutting up veggies, they love asparagus and nappa cabbage. When ordering Chinese food, they love BBQ spare ribs (without the red sauce).

My pug puppy, Boris, looooooves cheese! When my husband or I open a piece of string cheese or cut a slice of brie or shake the parmesean cheese over pasta, no matter where in our house Boris is, he RACES to the kitchen and is at our feet, sitting expectantly, waiting for his piece. His cheese palate knows no limits, but his favorite is the little shredded bits leftover when my husband and I finish Whole Foods aged Gouda. He even makes little lip-smacking sounds when he finishes!

Shrimp!! My rescued blue-cream persian, Chiana, (aka, Chi-Chi or Wookie-face) has never been a counter thief, except when the counter is supporting a plate of cocktail shrimp! it's uncanny, since to me, cocktail shrimp don't have much of a scent...but Chi sniffs them out every time.

Scottie Profitt says …

We never give our dogs people food!!! That being said, our two terriers will not leave me alone when I eat watermelon. It is the only exception to our no people food rule. They love watermelon!

I have three cats and they all like different things as a treat. But if i had to put them all together, their favorites are Cherries, peaches, squash, roasted chicken and tuna (not canned, cooked by me).

Natalie says …

My pups, being beagles, love anything thats accidently dropped on the floor! Thats why its so important that we've taught them the "leave it" command, when its not safe and the "hoover" command when they can go ahead and chow down. We have doggy b-day parties for them and I make them a natural carrot, honey cake with cottage cheese frosting, you should see them snap that up!!

Jess says …

My dog loves the Castor and Pollux rawhide bones. I let him pick between a few different ones that I have, the flavored regular rawhide we have had for years now, and the Castor and Pollux ones. He ALWAYS chooses the Good Buddy rawhide.

My kitty is very finicky. She likes tuna and corn. Basically any fresh or canned tuna, and any corn products. She likes corn on the cob, canned corn, and corn chips. It's very funny to see her sneak her way into a bag of corn chips and hear "crunch, crunch, crunch". It ruins the bag for us, but gains it for her!

Toby Shoda says …

We have three dogs at home. One is extremely picky about what kind of treats she'll eat, one will eat most stuff that isn't fruit or veggies, and one will eat pretty much anything. She likes ice cubes, all kinds of fruit and veggies and seems to enjoy it all and always wants more. She seems to really like avocados, but is happy with whatever tidbits she gets and is probably a little spoiled since she'll eat some of the stuff the other two won't. I guess it's just like people and dogs can be picky eaters, too :)

My 90lb. lab "Joe" loves cheese, carrots, and popcorn! Anytime the micorwave starts popping he is in front of it waiting for his treat. He loves the unsalted, natural popcorn the best!

Eric & Dana says …

Our adorkable 9-year-old kitty, Monster, will not touch meat or dairy products, but goes gaga over peanut butter, tomato sauces, and most of all chocolate fudgesicles! She always comes running when she hears the packaging crinkle, and gets the most disappointed look on her furry face when she finds out it's a fruit popsicle instead. And when it happens to be what she is hoping for, be prepared to share--she doesn't leave you much choice!

Nancy says …

My Pitt mix loves almost anything, but her favorites are definitely Natural Peanut Butter (No Sugar or salt added), Brocolli, Carrots, Whole Paws Peanut Butter Treats or Chicken Breathies (When her breath needs freshening :))

Nora Sudduth says …

My two 11yr old dogs (sisters from the same litter) love cottage cheese. The 9 month old kitten will harass anyone that opens a can of tuna. All three of them have negotiated their own spots under the kitchen table when the kids are eating, just in case anything falls on the ground!

Kristen says …

Mine loooove homemade dog ice cream. I blend up plain organic yogurt, honey, peanut butter, a banana, some water and some flaxmeal and glucosamine. Then I pour it into ramekin cups and freeze them. Bodie and Max love them in the summer!

Sarah says …

We have 2 dogs and we treat them with anything healthy that we eat - chicken/beef, fresh vegetables, brown rice, whole grain pasta. I like offering them a variety of healthy options.

Jen says …

My buddy Colby loves just about anything that doesn't try to eat him first but his favorite is plain non-fat yogurt. I started to give him just a dab of it in his food to help with yeast infections in his ear. Now I can't go into the kitchen without him thinking he's going to get this!

joe haney says …

Our cat likes tuna water. No tuna - just the water drained from the tuna!

Ann says …

My cats love Greenies, which also improve cat breath!

Jennifer says …

My 4 little dogs love the frozen treats I make them. They are made with yogurt, chicken or beef boullion, and some water. It is a wonderful treat on a hot summer day in Texas.

One of my dogs whose name is "Teach", a Cheasapeake Bay Retriever, named after a notorious pirate, loves the cores of apples! He has also broken into my garden and been found stealing the bounty of the compost pile! Argg!

Janeth says …

My pug loves baby carrots!! It's his favorite treat.

No lie - my yorkie Miley loves Whole Foods treats! The picture of the Pekingese on the front reminds me of my parent's dog, Peeker!

Ashley Anne Strobridge says …

My pirate-cat (I call him that because he has a black patch over his left eye) Tybolt's favorite treats are....his Vitamins! Hartz liver flavor Vitamin Care vitamins. He knows the routine: I bring him his dinner promptly at 6:30 PM (he will remind me if I am even 10 minutes late), he takes a whiff of the bowl of food, then he meows and rubs my legs until I offer him his regular treats, which are The Goodlife Recipe: Greens flavor. Even after those he won't touch his food until I get the bottle of his vitamins and offer him one, for which he will get up on his hind legs and take the vitamin from my hand. He is a wonderful cat who knows the good stuff when he tastes it, just like his mom!

Joe says …

My 14 y/o dog loves eggs and the occasional bone from the butcher. But mostly eggs are her favorite treat. Whenever I make eggs for breakfast I always cook one up especially for her. :)
