Our Favorite Strawberry Recipes
Strawberries are one of the surest signs that warm weather is here to stay, but we love to enjoy these precious berries all year. It’s not hard to find a way to enjoy them, with strawberry recipes for every meal of the day.
When buying strawberries, look for bright red berries that are firm. Size isn’t necessarily an indicator of flavor, though larger berries tend to have more water content than their smaller counterparts. For many recipes, frozen strawberries work well, and they’re picked and frozen at the peak of freshness to maintain flavor.
Wash berries only just before using them to ensure freshness, and store them in the refrigerator in a vented or towel-lined container to help prevent molding. Keeping the stems on will also prolong the life of your strawberries.
Adding sugar to strawberry recipes enhances their natural flavor, but if you’re looking to go savory, acids like lemon juice or balsamic vinegar do the trick as well. Happily, strawberries pair well with all sorts of ingredients, but especially other fruits, creams and custards, nuts and wine. Don’t be afraid to try them with the slightly unexpected like black pepper or in seafood recipes.
